I thought i would upload the booklet that everyone is buzzing about this morning. Meal replacement shakes as a dietary option for Type 2 Diabetes management.  Also known as the Newcastle diet or DiRECT study that the BBC and ITV are discussing is the research behind a new diet rollout plan that GP referrals will start today in selected health areas.  If the pilot schemes are effective, they will be rolled out across the NHS.  We have posted about this regularly for the past couple of months. It’s been part of the strategy for the NHS to roll it out nationwide in an effort to save money on long term diabetes care (medication).

A number of health authorities are embracing it and rolled it out already, more to follow. Some will pay for it, others will expect us to contribute for the shakes/soups.

The important thing to note, it’s not mandatory. You won’t be forced to do it.

It does however have the greatest clinical evidence that remission is possible. The individuals from the first wave have over 50% still in remission two years down the line. No other study globally has that kind of success. It is not a fad diet. It’s clinically supported to help you.

Dr Roy Taylor has a book about it that you can buy on Amazon. (Life without Diabetes)

He has been studying this for years and currently has a clinical study on underweight Diabetics that he is also trying this approach with.
Worth a read, changes the narrative of what is possible with remission.

Don’t dismiss it out of hand, many people in here have already done it to great success. But also don’t feel you have to do it.
They know its tough and they are training DNs and specialist “nutritionists” to help your exit plan as this is perhaps the harder aspect.   However it is a different option for people that dont like the idea of the Low Carb Diet.
